Two found in possession of dead man’s gun in Delmore Park

The deceased, identified as a 45-year-old Ramaphosa resident, suffered two gun shot wounds to the upper body

Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a veld with a gun in the one hand. However, when police arrived on the scene the gun was gone.

A passer-by made the gruesome discovery on July 20 and alerted police to the body in the veld near Commissioner Street, Delmore Park.

Led by their commander, WO Botha, members of the Reiger Park Crime Prevention unit descended on the scene and found the man lying facing down.

According to the Reiger Park police, the deceased, identified as a 45-year-old Ramaphosa resident, suffered two gun shot wounds to his upper body. The firearm was, however, not found on the scene.

Police immediately launched an investigation to locate the firearm and possibly the person who may have removed it from the body.

Gathered information led police to Princes Street in Delmore Park, where they found two men.

“Officers requested to search the men. They found one of the men in possession of the wanted firearm with the serial number filed off. The other man was found with one magazine carrying five live rounds,” explained Reiger Park SAPS station commander Lt Col Eugene Roets.

Management applauded the team involved for acting swiftly to recover the illegal firearm, as they believe it was mostly likely to be used to commit crime.

“By removing a firearm from the hands of criminals so many lives are saved. I think we are on the right track in our efforts to reclaim the streets from gangs. Many thanks to my members for a job well done,” said Roets.

The suspects, aged 21 and 26, are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
