Foundation treats Ridgeview residents on Mandela Day

The foundation distributed 67 bags full of treats amongst residents at the Ridgeview Retirement Village on July 18

The Gregg Mitchley Foundation (GMF) spent their 67 minutes of Mandela Day spreading love and joy at the Ridgeview Retirement Village, in Bartlett.

While wearing masks and adhering to Covid-19 regulations, Gregg Mitchley, founder of GMF, and Cheyenne Voges handed out 67 colourful bags filled with treats, like sweets, chocolates and biscuits, to senior citizens at the retirement village.

Mitchley pointed out the elderly have been feeling lonely due to the pandemic prohibiting friends and family to visit.

“People also tend to forget about our senior citizens. Therefore, we decided to do something to cheer them up a little bit. I have a passion for the elderly. To care for those who once cared for us is one of the greatest privileges,” the Benoni resident said.

GMF was established in 2019 as a way to channel the extraordinary energy and generosity of people who want to make a difference in their community. Gregg’s vision was to find and publicise specific causes that would directly benefit children, youth and elderly.

Julie Koster, a Ridgeview Retirement official, expressed her gratitude towards the foundation, adding the residents were touched by the gesture.

The foundation is in need of items, such as biscuits, cookies, blankets and towels.
