Boksburg’s Keylock included in SA youth swimming squad

He has also recently received the news that Swimming South Africa's state of readiness, which had been submitted to the government, has been successful

Boksburg swimmer Kian Keylock has been selected for the South African National Youth squad for the upcoming 2020/21 swimming season.

The CBC Boksburg learner is the only swimmer selected from Ekurhuleni for the 48-member squad.Selection for the group is earned by being ranked in the top three swimmers in the country in your age group. Keylock was recently named the top swimmer for his u-14 age group for the past season.

The latest is his second selection for the national squad.

“It’s always an achievement to be selected for the SA team so it’s really great news,” said the reticent Boksburg Aquatic Saints golden boy.

After being denied the opportunity to defend his No 1 status in various competitions due to the coronavirus pandemic, primarily the South African Junior Nationals which were supposed to be staged in Durban in April this year, things are suddenly looking up for Keylock.

He has also recently received the news that Swimming South Africa’s state of readiness, which had been submitted to the government, has been successful.

This means swimming has been given the green light and swimmers who train at private pools and those who are fortunate enough to train at well-run municipal facilities can return to the pool strictly for training for now.

Meanwhile, the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) had awarded SA national colours to those who represented the country during the 13th CANA Junior African Games in Tunisia last year.

Keylock was a part of this team. His prestigious green SA blazer and kit have also finally arrived.

Just before the abrupt disruption of the pandemic, Keylock blitzed to a finishing time of 30:24 seconds to set a new South African u-14 boys 50m breaststroke record at the Grand Prix Invitational Swimming meet, also hosted in Durban.

The CBC Boksburg star broke the old record of 30:37 set in 2016 by Joshua Hamilton.

It was a result which rendered him as the 50m and 100m breaststroke national record holder for boys u-14.
