Pup confiscated after Vosloorus owner tries docking its tail

The tail could not be saved and had to be amputated

The Boksburg SPCA recently received a complaint from a concerned member of the public about a dog owner in Vosloorus who had allegedly tied an elastic band around the base of his dog’s tail and then allegedly burnt the tail.

According to Boksburg SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore, the docking of the tail is a crime and causes a lot of pain to the animal.

“The cross-boerboel puppy was confiscated with a warrant from the magistrate’s court and was rushed to a local veterinarian. The tail could not be saved and had to be amputated,” Finnemore said.

She added they have named the puppy Buddy because after all he’s been through, he’s still the friendliest little guy around.

“Buddy was released from hospital on June 25 and his owner will face criminal charges of animal abuse,” Finnemore said.

The surgery and treatment cost the SPCA R2 500. Donations towards these bills will be greatly appreciated.
