Guns, ammo and police uniform found at house in Delmore Gardens

EMPD members received a tip-off from a member of the public about a suspicious-looking house on Stumpnose Road

A 37-year-old man has been arrested after police seized four firearms, including an automatic rifle with ammunition.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, the man was arrested by members of the EMPD Tracing Unit on June 25.

“During a crime prevention operation in Delmore Gardens, EMPD members received a tip-off from a member of the public about a suspicious-looking house in Stumpnose Road, which was being frequented by suspicions characters.

“Officers stormed the property at about 7pm and in the kitchen they found the 37-year-old man, who claimed to be a relative who was just passing by, carrying a red bag containing almost 500 live rounds for an AK-47, 9mms and four extra 9mm magazines. The officers uncovered an AK-47 assault rifle, and three 9mm pistols with magazines and one AK-47 magazine. An SAPS jacket was also recovered,” said Mokheseng.

Possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, with suspected stolen police uniform charges, were levelled against the suspect, who is expected to appear at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
