The massive power blackouts hit parts of Boksburg last night and it’s unclear as to what caused the outages on the city’s grid.
The Boksburg North suburbs and industrial sites left in the dark due to the unexplained outage included Witfield, Dayanglen, Ravenswood, Jan Smutsville, Westwood, Beyers Park, Impala Park and parts of Andebolt.
People took to social media to share their experiences and speculations, with some praising the metro’s technicians for swiftly attending to the outages after they were reported to the energy department.
Facebook comments on the power outage:
- Vanessa Jacobs: Power outage, whole Northern part of Boksburg is without power. I have escalated the outage to the department.
- Mary Harwood: Power was off only for one hour … well done to the engineers!
- Shamir Khan: Power out in Benoni as well. Seems like there might be a bigger problem
- Graeme Preston: Simple answer Benburg substation in Petit has tripped out. Boksburg and Benoni are supplied by Benburg substation
The Advertiser is still awaiting comment from the metro.
