Witfield tragedy: Preliminary findings indicate mom and children may have died of poisoning

Yoghurt or ice cream inside a glass was found to be mixed with a blackish substance suspected to be a poison

The 28-year-old mother who was found dead with her two children in their Witfield home on May 25 may have  poisoned her two children. This was discovered during the preliminary investigation by the Boksburg North police.

According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, preliminary investigations into the matter revealed that the dead mother might have allegedly poisoned her children before committing suicide by poisoning herself too.

“Investigations further revealed that a yoghurt or ice cream that was inside a glass was found to be mixed with a blackish substance suspected to be a poison,” Ramaube said.

The police are still waiting for post-mortem results.

The husband told the police his wife and the two children, aged six and three, were alive when he left for work.

“However, when the husband returned from work at around 9pm he found the door locked and he used his key to open the door,” Ramaube said.

“He found the wife on the floor in the main bedroom and the two children on the bed and assumed they were sleeping. The husband then tried to wake them up they didn’t move so he asked neighbours for help and an ambulance was called. Paramedics certified the three of them dead on the scene.”
