Wool Centre makes donation to support Tambo Babies

Customers were asked to make donations to the shop and the response has been overwhelming

Many people in need will have food on the table and be warm this winter thanks to the Wool Centre Boksburg.

The centre makes annual charitable donations to the Boksburg community. On May 28, the Wool Centre made yet another generous donation towards Tambo Babies Boksburg.

“There are so many people suffering due to the lockdown,” said Elizabeth Evans, owner of the Wool Centre.

“About a week ago we asked customers to bring donations to the shop and the response has been overwhelming. Customers donated handmade items like blankets, beanies and a bag full of baby clothing that will be distributed among the less fortunate.

“We’re also supporting Tambo Babies’ incredible Jars of Hope initiative, where you fill coffee jars or sandwich bags with essential food items such as a cup of rice, soup mix, lentils, two unwrapped beef stock cubes and two packets of soup powders. You can even add pasta (macaroni) if you want to make the meal even more filling. One filled bottle can feed eight people. We received two boxes full of empty bottles, and seven filled jars last week.”

Evans highlighted that her shop is still collecting items for charity and appealed to the community to bring blankets (or polyfleece fabric for an adult blanket,) beanies, scarves, baby products and coffee jars (filled, empty or the ingredients).

“Wool Centre thanks all the customers that made donations. Without them this donation would not be possible,” said Evans.

Tina Moolman, who is part of the Tambo Babies initiative, that was launched by Barbara Morrison in 2013, expressed her gratitude towards the centre.

“We’re extremely grateful for the donation, and it’s going to make a big difference to those who are in need,” said Moolman. “Unfortunately, we’re unable to visit the hospital at the moment due to lockdown. However, we’re still collecting items for the less fortunate. The jars filled with food will be given to The Forgotten East Rand, and the other items will be distributed among needy people in the community,” said Moolman.

The Wool Centre Boksburg plans to make more donations towards Tambo Babies.
