Tambo Babies to feed the needy with Jars of Hope initiative

The contents of a Jar of Hope are affordable and make a healthy, sustainable meal

Tambo Babies Boksburg is hoping to feed many people in the community with their new Jars of Joy initiative.

Tina Moolman, from the NPO, explained that they are distributing coffee jars and sandwich bags filled with a cup of rice, soup mix, lentils, two unwrapped stock cubes and two packets of soup powder among the needy.

A filled coffee jar will feed eight people, and a sandwich bag will feed four people.

“I saw a post on Facebook indicating you can feed several people if you add the contents to boiling water and cook it for 45 minutes. I think it’s a brilliant idea. The contents are affordable, and it’s a healthy, sustainable meal. All you need is water and some form of heat. You can even cook the meal over a fire. We tasted the recipe ourselves, and it really is delicious. The recipe is easy to make, and it’s filling,” said Moolman.

Tina, Melanie Andrews, Ceradwyn Foster and Pamela Martin filled about 15 coffee bottles will all the ingredients.

“We’ll donate the jars to The Forgotten East Rand and to any person in need of food. We truly hope it will help those in need. People are really suffering during lockdown, and it’s getting worse by the day. We have to do something to assist them,” Moolman pointed out.

She highlighted that they would appreciate it if the public can donate coffee jars, sandwich bags or ingredients. Moolman also encouraged the public to drive around with a filled jar to give it away if they see somebody in need of food.

Anybody who would like to contribute towards the project may contact Tina on 073 345 1419.
