How Tristan Truter is coping with the lockdown

With the Hammer Gym closed too – Truter has had the ball rolling at home as far as his fitness is concerned.

Boksburg pugilist Tristan Truter is one of many athletes who’ve had to improvise in keeping their fitness levels in top shape amid the unprecedented lockdown situation.

The Hammer Gym student was due to fight late last month at Emperors Palace in a third/fourth place bout of a top four junior middleweight knockout competition against Roarke Knapp before the event was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It will be all systems go once the pandemic becomes history and the Hammer Gym student will be expected to be ready when Golden Gloves Promotions announces a new date for the top four finale.

Quizzed on how different it is training from home compared to at the gym, Truter said: “Well, it has certainly made things more of a challenge, but we get the job done.

“Training at home is not necessarily harder than training at the gym, but it’s more frustrating to not have my normal equipment.”

Truter faced former mixed martial arts star Boyd Allen in the semi-final round of the knockout tournament, while Brandon Thysse locked horns with Knapp. Allen and Thysse were immediately on a collision course following their respective victories to earn them a spot in the final while Truter and Knapp had to settle for the bronze medal fight following their defeats. – @SabeloBoksburg
