Boksburg Child Welfare urgently in need of new premises for charity shop

Despite not having a physical shop at the moment, the organisation is still desperately in need of donations.

Boksburg Child Welfare is still urgently in need of a new premises for their charity shop.

The organisation’s charity shop was situated in Trichardts Road up until five years ago.

Primarily the shop closed because they did not have a shop assistant. Shortly after that, the property owner requested them to vacate the premises in order to carry out renovations.

Since then, several challenges prevented them from moving back into the premises and board members are trying their utmost best to deal with the issue.

James van Heerden, a board member, explained that economic hardships are making it difficult for them to find a suitable space for the bargain shop.

“We need to rent a space at a reasonable price as we’re a non-profitable organisation,” the board member explained.

The Boksburg Child Welfare used to make up to R10 000 a month by selling donated goods at their shop.

“The funds generated from the charity shop are essential to sustaining our wide range of services,” he added.

He further emphasised they are still desperately in need of donations despite not having a physical shop at the moment.

“We will welcome any donations of second-hand items that are in a good condition. No donation is too small.

“Donations can be dropped off at our offices, or we can arrange to collect them after the 21-day lockdown,” he said.

The organisation is still awaiting guidance from the Department of Social Development on how they should proceed during the lockdown.

Boksburg Child Welfare is situated next to the town hall on the corner of Trichard Road and Commissioner Street, in the CBD.

Anybody who can assist with donations or who is aware of suitable premises for their charity shop should contact the local child welfare on 011 074 5028.
