Drummie season kicks off in style with a double win for St Dominic’s

The Saints and Saintees will be in action again on April 4 at the St Dom’s for the prestigious Knight of Champions competition, dedicated to the late Norman Knight.

Excitement filled the St Dominic’s School grand stands on February 29 when they hosted the first majorette competition of the season.

Ten junior school and nine senior school teams from all over Gauteng competed in the categories of small drill, flag group and baton.

Both the junior and senior schools of St Dominic’s teams won in all three categories.

The Saints, as they are fondly known, are led by matriculant Danae van der Merwe and are coached by Allan Donaldson.

The Saintees (the junior school) are led by Grade 7 learner Nomndeni Zwane and are coached by Alisha Venter, Jenna-Lee van Niekerk and Matthew Higgs.

The programme for the Knight of Champions competition is not yet available but the competition will run all day from morning into the evening, with the traditional ‘Large Drill’ section set to begin around 7pm.
