Awareness campaign educates learners on bullying, dangers of drug usage
The police cemented the initiative by encouraging learners not to bully one another and to refrain from stealing.
Members of the Boksburg North SAPS, Boksburg North CPF and Sanca Eastern Gauteng converged at Summerfields Primary School to stage an awareness campaign on February 24.
This is according to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube.
The objective of the day was to engage learners about bullying and the dangers of using drugs.
During the initiative, Busisiwe and Nomathemba Hintsho from Sanca spoke to school learners as part of the Ke-Mojo prevention and education programme.
Learners were told not to indulge in any form of drug or alcohol as a way to have fun and were urged to concentrate on their books.
The representatives from Sanca also warned the learners that hubbly bubbly (hookah) is a gateway drug because people build up tolerance to it and move onto stronger substances.
Mark Gilpin, chairperson of the Boksburg North CPF, urged learners not to buy sweets from strangers and to be vigilant all the time.
He also highlighted that learners, parents and teachers should report suspicious-looking vehicles identified around the school area.
Boksburg North SAPS station commander Col Kumbulani Mbatha and Summerfield Primary principal Joe Bantich thanked everyone for taking part in this initiative project as it forms partnership policing.
