Fun-filled carnival at Ridgeview Village celebrates Methodist Homes’ 50th birthday.

The show presented by Tandem Flame Entertainment (TFE) was well attended by approximately 90 residents of the retirement village.

In celebration of their 50th birthday, Methodist Homes recently hosted a carnival for residents and staff at Ridgeview Village.

Jaw-dropping performances by jugglers, mime artists, men-on-stilts and many more gave residents a much-needed escape from their daily routine.

Getting into true carnival spirit and capturing the moment, residents could dress up and have fun at a themed photo booth complete with accessories. Taking things back to the good old carnival days, the residents will be able to indulge in sweet treats such as candy floss and popcorn, and can have loads of fun with games like throw-the-hoop.

Crazy P amazed the crowd with his skills on the unicycle, and magician Marcos Oliveira, wowed everyone with his magic trick, while Landi Schroeder and Morgan Pi dared residents to show off their hula hooping skills.

Residents were also invited to submit a photograph of themselves taken approximately 50 years ago. The winner and finalists will be selected and announced at the event, following which the winner will go on to have their photo taken by a professional photographer, receive a special gift and have their image appear on Methodist Homes marketing campaigns.

“What sets us apart in the retirement homes space is our intrinsic belief that all our residents deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and compassion,” notes Drina Engelbrecht, CEO at Methodist Homes.

“Staying true to these beliefs, we wanted to show our residents how truly special they are to us, and make them proud of their individuality, which is why we decided to host the travelling fair.”

The theme of the carnival is based on the song, “This is me”, from the movie, The Greatest Showman.

In the film the circus performers are cherished and celebrated for their individuality as well as motivated to remain true to themselves. This inspiring message has been adapted by Methodist Homes to show the residents that the ageing process does not change who they are, they are still precious and should continue doing what they love.

“We want to give the residents an authentic carnival experience as far as possible so that they can release their inner child,” explained Drina.

Encompassing twelve retirement villages in Gauteng and three in the North West, Methodist Homes has over the years created a nurturing environment in which highly skilled staff provides attentive care to the elderly.
