Mother and daughter arrested for dealing in drugs

The police also seized an illegal firearm in a separate incident, while another man was arrested for trying to bribe officers.

Reiger Park SAPS’ mission to remove drugs from the community yielded positive results when the station’s Crime Prevention members arrested a 46-year-old mother and 15-year-old daughter for dealing and possession of drugs.

This is according to Const Zanele Motoung, Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson.

“On Tuesday, January 28 at about 5.30pm, our members were busy attending to a complaint of domestic violence at the Flats  in Reiger Park. They, however, accidentally went to the wrong address,” said Motoung.

“As they entered the premises, a young girl ran towards the bathroom when she saw the police. Officers were quick to act, giving chase and managing to catch her. They found small transparent plastic bags with tablets on her, which she tried to throw out of the window.

“The child told the police that the drugs belonged to her mother. Further searches were conducted and  more drugs were confiscated and both suspects were arrested. A total of 400 Mandrax tablets were found with the estimated street value of R24 000. ”

The station commander Lt Col Paul Mathebula commended the members for the job well-done.

Firearm seized

Mathebul said in another case, an illegal firearm was confiscated.

“We received information about the use of an illegal firearm in Ramaphosa Road Reserve,  Reiger Park.  This is after the alleged suspect pointed the firearm at his landlord,” said Mathebula.

“According to the information received,  the two had an argument. The suspect then threatened the complainant a gunpoint,”

He said police arrived at the scene and found the Ethiopian national (47). A search was conducted and nothing illegal was found at the premises.

“He was taken to the police station and a thorough interrogation was conducted.  The members went back to his shop and conducted more searches and the firearm was recovered along with six rounds of ammunition. The serial number was filled off.

“The suspect then called his friend who came and begged the police not to arrest his friend. He then promised the police R500.

“The friend was warned several times but insisted on trying to bribe our members.  Our members then arrested the fried for corruption. ”
