Boksburg march on with a convincing win over visitors Kwa-Thema

KwaThema was bowled out for an overall total of 116 after 38 overs, leaving Boksburg licking their lips ahead of their batting innings.

With the Boksburg Cricket Club’s premier XI being one of the less fancied teams in this year’s Eastern Cricket Premier group, partly because of their inexperienced and young squad, winning all their ‘winnable’ games is none negotiable for the local side.

And in their case, so far so good.

Following their win in their opening game of the year against Tembisa a fortnight ago at Prince George Park, the local side have yet again done a job on matters they have control over by following up the Tembisa win with a convincing win over visitors Kwa-Thema at the same venue on Sunday, January 19.

The sound six-wicket win also arrived with a welcomed bonus point with the no-nonsense PG Park outfit making quick work of KwaThema – with the win coming just after 16.4 overs of batting for Boksburg, completing their successful chase of the opponent’s 117-run target.

KwaThema opening batsman Njabulo Zondi finished as his side’s top scorer with 22 runs.

In-form Boksburg bowler Jordan Hollard did the most damage to KwaThema’s hopes with his impressive performance with the leather which yielded 3/21 in just six overs of delivering – including one maiden.

On the Boksburg side of things, their opening batsmen continued with their struggles as Akhter Rasul and his captain Adam Forbes were shown their bench after making two and 18 respectively.

But the good news for Forbes and company is that the team still managed to find runs elsewhere to keep up the winning momentum as was the case in the Tembisa clash where the top order left the fray rather earlier than desired.

Kane Horwell (unbeaten 31), Johan Davel (24) and Hollard (19) proved significant for their side on the afternoon as their efforts quickly re-stabilised their team’s innings and helped take control of the match before completing the job.

Horwell finished alongside Jayden Snyman, who helped cross the line with his unbeaten six, helping their side score 118 after 16 overs. – @SabeloBoksburg
