Although the festive season is a time to spread generosity, goodwill and to share joy, the community of Reiger Park was throughout the festive period besieged by bloody gang war.
According to the police, the period saw a long and bloody battle, where four people, including a woman, were killed in separate shootings believed to be gang-related.
According to the police report, the woman suffered gunshot wounds after a gunman opened fire on the car she was travelling in with her boyfriend. She succumbed to the injuries in hospital.
A fifth person was also injured in another shooting, but survived a hail of bullets.
Arrested suspects
The Reiger Park police have during the period between the beginning of the festive season and January 1, arrested over 100 suspects for criminal offences ranging from murder to possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Other arrests for the possession of explosives, stolen goods, illegal immigration, selling liquor without a licence, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault, domestic violence, possession and dealing in drugs, were made.
