Open manhole poses danger, no action yet from the metro

The cover was not stolen as pieces of it is inside the manhole.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, is concerned as the metro is apparently not attending to complaints about an open manhole in Slangkop Road.

The manhole was allegedly noticed by residents about two weeks ago and has been reported to the metro on numerous occasions, to no avail.

According to the resident, the manhole is hazardous to residents walking down the street.

“The manhole is big and dangerous. I’m worried that someone might get hurt by falling into it. The festive season is upon us, which means more children will be playing in the street.

“At least somebody covered the manhole with a door now. This will hopefully grab people’s attention at night when it’s dark and prevent people from falling into the manhole,” said the concerned resident.

He said the metro has visited the scene, but failed to fix the problem.

“The municipality couldn’t repair the open manhole and didn’t inform us why. We don’t know if they couldn’t see the manhole because it’s covered by a door. We just want them to cover the open manhole.”

The Advertiser is still awaiting comment from the metro.
