Audio interview: New president of Woodland Interact Club ready to make an impact

Her induction took place during an assembly at the college that was also dedicated to the great work that the Interact team has done in the 2018-2019 term.

Anastasia Argyrou recently took over the reins from Daniella dos Santos as the Woodland Interact Club president for the 2019-2020 term.

Anastasia is a Grade 11 student at Woodlands International College with a heart of gold. This talented girl has many hobbies, including hockey, arts and listening to music. She is also passionate about helping others.

The new president explained that the Interact club is part of Rotary, which aims at bringing people together to make a difference in the community and to help those in need.

“I’m excited for this challenge. To oversee such an amazing organisation that focuses on helping others. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to have a stronger influence in the club and to put my ideas forward,” said Anastasia, who got involved at the Interact club about four years ago.

“During my time as president, I would like to pay attention to recycling and start an eco-bricks project. An eco-brick is basically a plastic bottle packed with used plastic to set density that creates a reusable building block. Eco-bricks are used to make modular furniture, garden spaces, walls and structures.

“I would also like us to do old-age home spa days, where we go to an old-age home to spend time with the residents and entertain them.

“I became part of the club because I have a desire to help others and the club provided me the platform to make a difference in the community within a group. To me, it was about you can make a bigger difference in a group than you can by yourself.

“I think it’s rewarding to give something without expecting anything in return.”

Her main goal, as president, is to keep the club active and to get more people involved to make a difference in the community.
