Author pens a book to encourage dialogue among South Africans

A Prayer of a black man is sold nationwide at Exclusive Book stores, CNA, Bargain Books and Amazon.

Klipportjie resident Motsumi oa Mphirime, the author of the book, A Prayer of a black man, is in the process of finishing his second book aimed at teaching children African languages.

The stories in the book are in English, isiZulu and SeSotho.

His first book, launched in 2015, reflects on his thoughts about the current situation in the country that some people face, economically and socially.

The book aims to create a discussion among South Africans, as he believes that a nation that is not having a conversation with itself is a lost nation.

His book further encourages black Africans to reflect on their past and legacy.

“When you read the title of the book you may think that it’s talking about religion, but it’s not. In the book, I talk about languages.

“I feel that we are surrendering our mother tongues, which I find to be a weakness. Some of the other topics that I touched on, include the challenges that journalists face and many more.

“The reason I wrote this book was that I realised that as Africans we lack that sense of critical conversation among ourselves,” Motsumi said.

He grew up in Welkom in the Free State and came to Johannesburg in 1993. He studied mechanical engineering, but didn’t complete his studies.

He holds a national diploma in financial accounting and a marketing certificate from Damelin College.

Mphirime founded Mpatilele Trading and Projects, which offers business development solutions, through consulting.

Through his company, he was able to self-publish his book.

Furthermore, after penning his book, he established a foundation that aims to empower Africans through economic transformation.
