Taking a closer look at Mjovo Soccer School

The school plays under the Boksburg and Central Football Association League and all its teams are coached by founder Senzo Ngwazi.

Mjovo Soccer School, which is based in Boksburg and plays its home games at the WJ Clemments Stadium in Reiger Park, was founded in 2015.

The school currently includes three teams, namely the u-10s, u-13s and u-15s.

However, both the u-10 and u-13 teams are yet to compete competitively pending registration, leaving the senior squad, the u-15s, the only competitively active team.

Quizzed on the school’s background, Senzo explained: “Mjovo Soccer School started in 2015 as a team. I was 18 years old when I started Mjovo Soccer School. The reason I started the team is because I lost my mother as a six-year-old in KwaZulu-Natal, she paid for my soccer career.

“I had R50 to start my school and in July 2015, I won a tournament in Johannesburg worth R2 000. To play in the tournament, I had to pay R50; it was a team back then.

“Mjovo is my nickname my grandfather, my mother’s father, gave me as a youngster.

“I arrived in Boksburg in early 2015 because I encountered problems in KZN which prevented me to continue with my soccer career. Mjovo Soccer School was a way for me to give back and we’ve since done well, winning a few tournaments along the way.”
