Beware smash-and-grabs on Boksburg roads

Thieves are mostly attracted to valuable items that are kept in plain sight, such as cellphones, handbags and laptops. Drivers are urged not to place any valuable items on car seats or inside vehicles, where they can be easily seen by would-be-thieves.

Police are hunting two thieves who snatched a motorist’s cellphone in a smash-and-grab incident on Commissioner Street just before 6pm on July 9.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Const Ntsako Ledwaba, the victim was waiting at the traffic light on the corner of Commissioner Street and van Dyk Road, when his car’s passenger window was smashed to pieces.

In a matter of seconds, a man and his accomplice snatched his Samsung cellphone.

The predators then fled the scene.

Police have identified the area as one of the smash-and-grabs hotspots in the city and warn motorist to be vigilant when driving along the area.
