Reiger Park football star Shandre Campbell recently starred in a Safa u-15 tournament in Pamona, helping his side SuperSport United Academy to capture the trophy following a dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout win against Highlands Park.

The three-day tournament served as a player selection opportunity for the u-17 national selectors.

It was a tough route to the final for Campbell and his United teammates: their road to the final included collisions with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in the quarter and semi-finals respectively.

Both encounters were evidently going to be tough for United, but they did a 1-0 job against Chiefs after eliminating Pirates, also in a penalty shootout.

United earned their place in the knockouts after qualifying in the round-robin phase by topping their group.

Campbell, a Sunward Park High learner, said he learnt a lot from the experience and wants to represent the country by playing for Bafana Bafana from an early age.

He thanked his coach Roscoe Krieling for believing in him and giving him the opportunity.

He continued: “To the technical team and all management that works behind the scenes, thank you. Thank you to God for blessing me with the talent.”
