Lungile finally gets her prosthetic leg

On her birthday (February 27), Farrar Park resident Thandaza Baduza surprised Lungile at school with a pizza, a sleeping gown, yoghurt and a Tropica juice.

Lungile’s Mkhwanazi’s wish to get a prosthetic leg has finally come true within a space of four months all thanks to Tambo Memorial Hospital.

Lungile’s right leg was amputated last year after she was diagnosed with bone cancer.

In February, the Advertiser published her story which touched scores of people who phoned Lungile’s mother, Mavis Mkhwanazi, to find out how they can assist.

She received donations of cash amounting to R2 500 from generous people around Boksburg and also a church from Alberton, respectively.

Tambo Memorial Hospital also came through as the shining knight in armor for Lungile when they volunteered to offer her the prosthetic leg.

“I am very happy and excited that my daughter finally got what she longed for.

“We have been going to the hospital for the prosthetic procedure which took about three months. She also attended physiotherapy which assisted her to get used to walking with the prosthetic leg.

“We are grateful to the hospital for their hospitality and warmth,” Mkhwanazi said.

Expressing her excitement for the new prosthetic leg, Lungile said: “No words can describe how I’m feeling because I am over the moon. The prosthetic leg will help me feel normal and it will somehow make my life easier than before.”

Lungile’s mother thanked everyone who responded after reading Lungile’s article in the Advertiser.

Tambo Memorial promised to respond regarding the kind gesture they showed to Lungile.
