Joshua’s ‘can do’ attitude lands him prestigious title

According to MWI International, they look for titleholders who are ambitious, intelligent and personable, while at the same time making a difference in their communities through volunteerism and serving.

Joshua Rushton from Witfield was recently crowned as MMI Phenomenal Mr Gauteng 2019.

The pageant is run under the auspices of MWI International, which is designed to showcase the beauty, intelligence, art and style of every woman and man.

The actual crowning ceremony will be held on June 16 at Image Lifestyle, and from there he is looking to travel to Las Vegas in August for the international pageant finals.

This is another crowning achievement for Joshua, who turns 21 in August, who has already faced many challenges in life.

Apart from him having Down syndrome, he also had many medical issues at birth. Virtually every organ of his body had a medical challenge, including having a clubbed foot.

After undergoing heart surgery at the age of six months, and much prayer from his parents and their support group, this little fighter has gone from strength to strength.

Today, Joshua is a provincial sprinter and long jumper for the Tswane DS Sports Association. He is also a gymnast specialising in tumbling.

To maintain a strong frame from which to excel at these sports, he works out at the local gym, becoming stronger by the week.

The Advertiser also reported on Joshua’s successful home-based business venture called Joshi Biscotti, through which he bakes and sells his product.

Pastor John Rushton believes his son, Joshua, has been awarded the prestigious recognition of the MMI title because even though he was dealt a short hand at birth, he continues to rise above his challenges and continues to face life with a ‘can do’ attitude.

“We are still seeking financial input from donors and sponsors to assist in making this international dream a reality,” said John.
