Boksburg High learner features on Drama-mammas

Two scouts from America watch them to see which one of the learners will be invited to Atlanta, Georgia, USA, for a three-week internship at the Serenbe Playhouse.

Gareth Faure (17) from Boksburg has earned a spot for him and his mother, Tracey-Leigh Hoffman, on a new TV show called Drama-mammas.

The show aired on VIA channel 147 for the first time on May 15 and airs every Wednesday at 9.30pm.

On the 13-week show, the Boksburg High School learner and his mother, as well as other high school learners with their mothers, go to Broadway South Africa Camp where they participate in various drama competitions around Johannesburg.

Gareth is also one of the top three students at the Benoni Eisteddfod.

“I love being on Drama-mammas. It is an unpredictable, fresh show that is full of drama and people won’t regret watching it.

“Drama-mammas taught us a lot and it is very competitive. It made me realise how important it is for a mother to support her child, and I’ll always encourage mothers to take their children for drama lessons – even if they don’t want to become actors,” said Tracey-Leigh.

According to Gareth, drama and the owner of the Little Live Arts Little Theatre, Louw Breytenbach, have changed his life.

“I was incredibly shy and that’s why I decided to take drama lessons. Drama taught me how to handle myself in public and it made me gain self-confidence.

“I was bullied when I was young and Louw advised me to ignore bullies. Since then my life has completely changed. Bullies left me alone when I stopped giving them the reaction they wanted,” said Gareth.

“Low cares and tends to have a connection with his students. I’ve learned so much from him and I don’t want to leave,” said Gareth.
