Resident warns motorists of high accident zone

"The ever-speeding taxis are also contributing to the danger of the road. It is important for the metro to do maintenance on the roads as potholes and faulty drains could also cause accidents in heavy rain." - Ward councillor

An anonymous resident recently took drastic measures in order to make people aware of a high accident zone in Parkrand.

The resident placed high accident zone warning signs on Trichardts Road in the vicinity of the Bokkie Park in Parkrand, where there have been several accidents and fatalities.

A fatal crash just after 3.40pm on February 28 claimed the life of a young woman on the corner of Van Wyk Louw and Trichardts roads, the Advertiser previously reported.

This tragedy shook the community and spurred residents into action.

“I reported the accident and spoke to the Ward 32 councillor, Marius de Vos, about this serious problem. The intersection is confusing and traffic lights are unclear in the region of the Bokkie Park. I hope that people are aware of it.

An “accident zone” warning sign was put up by an anonymous resident.

“We can’t lose more lives on the stretch of this road,” said a concerned resident who wishes to remain anonymous.

De Vos said he received complaints and followed it up with the metro.

“I’m aware of fatalities around the Bokkie Park and have been trying to sort this problem out for a while now. I’m communicating with Roads Department and they pledged to put up road signs as soon as possible.

The Advertiser is still waiting for comment from the metro and the EMPD.
