Blues, Celtics in goal-infested stalemate

“We will try and work on our mistakes so that we improve in the next game.” - Coach of the Blues

The Boksburg Football Club and visitors Linhill Celtics played to a 3-3 draw in their ELFA Super League encounter at the Boksburg City Stadium on March 23.

The home side drew blood as early as the sixth minute of the game when in-form forward Lawrence Nyembe netted.

However, the lead was short-lived. Celtics equalised almost immediately.

The opening stanza mostly saw the teams locked at one-all before they went into the break.

The end-to-end action continued in the latter half. Celtics took the lead for the first time, prompting an improved performance from the home side.

In a period where the Blues seemed to be heading for the collection of the total three points on offer, red-hot striker Sithembiso ‘Aguero’ Sibiya brought Ernest Seforo’s men back to level terms to make it 2-2.

Midfield maestro Kagisano ‘Sgora’ Seforo made it three for the home side with a deft header. However, the hard work was undone in a heart-breaking fashion for the Blues fans as they conceded in the worst possible way in the beautiful game of football: from a set-piece in the dying minutes.

Celtics was awarded a free-kick about 20 yards from the Blues’ goal mouth. It was neatly tucked in to the disbelief of the home side.

Blues coach Seforo said: “First-half we were under pressure, we created less chances but managed to score an early goal. The game was balanced but we slowed down in the second-half due to endurance. Most of our players had already played the reserve game (which was the curtain raiser for the match).

“I felt like a sharp sword had pierced through my heart when they equalised. Indeed, football can kill you but a point in the bag is better than nothing.

“We’re still battling and looking to sign more players, most of our players left the team at the end of last season so we’re in the process of rebuilding.
