Cable thefts plunge Boksburg suburbs into darkness

Several cable thefts were reported late last year, and such incidents have affected the power supply in the same areas with residents enduring power blackouts.

The Advertiser understands that Beyers Park, Atlasville, Bardene and Impala Park have been left without electricity, following cable theft near a substation supplying the communities with electricity.

According to Ward 22 councillor Ruhan Robinson, thieves stole a 30m long feeder cable during the night, plunging the aforementioned suburbs into darkness.

Robinson, however, told the Advertiser that residents can expect the power to be restored at around 4pm today, adding that municipal technicians are on site working to restore the power.

The ward councillor further stated that an about a 5m cable was also stolen in Plantation, and residents were left without power as a result of the theft.

Robinson pointed out that the area where the cable was stolen last night had become one of the cable theft hotspot in the city.
