EMPD arrest suspect in Windmill Park for trying to steal a 6m cable
The City of Ekurhuleni has been tormented by cable theft along R544 in the Windmill Park for some time.
The EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit members arrested one suspect and recovered a 6m cable that had already been dug out and cut by the perpetrators in the early hours of Friday morning (September 12).
According to Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, just before 4am on Friday morning, three suspects were sighted cutting the stolen cable along R554.
“When approached the suspects dropped their implements and ran. One of the suspects was apprehended but the other two managed to evade arrest,” said Kgasago.
“The 6m (185mm of 3 core) underground copper cable was recovered as well as a shovel and a hacksaw.
“The arrested suspect was detained at Dawn Park police station on a charge of cable theft. He is expected to appear in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court soon.”
“In this week a 25m long cable was stolen on Monday and another 20m cable dug out on Tuesday,” said Kgasago.
