Man pays R1000 not to be killed by a supposed hired assassin

A case of conspiracy to commit murder was opened at the Boksburg North SAPS.

A man received a text message on October 1 at 8pm from an unknown number stating that someone wants to kill him.

According to communications officer Capt Juanita Coetzer, the man arranged to meet with the suspect the next day at the East Rand railway station.

The complainant was informed by the suspect that he was supposed to kill him, but if he was given R1 000 he will not do so.

The man paid the money and reported the matter to the police.

The following case was also reported to the station:

• A local restaurant at East Point shopping centre was robbed on September 24 at 8.15pm.

The restaurant was already closed, and only one door was left open for the last three customers. About seven employees were cashing up in the manager’s office when two armed males entered.

They took an undisclosed amount of cash and a wristwatch. No shots were fired and no one was hurt. There were no cameras inside the restaurant.

The case is under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.

• The following arrests were made during the week of September 29 to October 9 :

Shoplifting 6, theft 2, trespassing 1, possession of illegal substances 8, common robbery 1, contravening of the Liquor Act 6, malicious damage to property 2, rape 1, contempt of court 1, defeating the ends of justice 1, negligent loss of firearm 1, contravening the Publication Act 6, business break-in and theft 1, use of motor vehicle without consent 1, possession of counterfeit goods 3, driving under the influence 3, conspiracy to commit murder 1, dealing in illegal substances 1, possession of stolen property 1, and assault 1.
