Campaign educates public to join hands to tackle social crime

The police warned the youth, school children in particular, against bullying, using drugs, gangsterism and other criminal activities.

In a bid to arrest social ills in communities, the Department of Social Development collaborated with the SAPS, EMPD and Boksburg Correctional Services to hold a social crime prevention event at Conquerors of Christ Church in Ramaphosa on September 28.

The South African National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders (Nicro) was also part of the crime prevention event attended by local high school learners, including Sunward Park High School, Reiger Park Secondary School and Oosrand Secondary School.

The purpose of the campaign was to educate the public on social crime and encourage communities to join hands with government to fight against all forms of social ills.

During the event, speakers focused on the social issues and economic conditions that contribute to violent and criminal behaviour.

Residents were also asked to report any illegal activities in their neighbourhood to the police.
