Boksburg FC too good for Linhill Celtic

Boksburg is still embroiled in an interesting battle to avoid relegation with the season nearing its end.

Four goals were netted in the opening half and another five in the latter half as the Boksburg Football Club proved too good for visitors Linhill Celtic in their Easterns Super League encounter at the Boksburg City Stadium on Saturday, July 21.

Having taken a 3-1 lead going into the half-time break courtesy Sifiso Matola, Wesley Vollmer and Arnold Tlopola, the Blues emulated their performance in front of goal in the second as they netted another trio of goals to win 6-3.

Tlopola grabbed his second in the second to complete his brace and joined Ndumiso Selepe, who netted twice for his brace.

This helped the local side close the gap on the table between themselves and Celtic to one. With both teams having played 18 games, the visitors lie in 12th in the 14-team log with 15 points. Corinthians are at the base of the log with 10 points from 18 outings.

This puts the three sides on course for an interesting battle to avoid relegation with the season nearing its end.

Blues coach Ernest Seforo commented: “We missed a lot of opportunities but we’re grateful of the outcome. You know us coaches are never satisfied.

“We dominated from the beginning. I was impressed with our counter-attacks and the boys’ positioning. Everything went according to plan,” said the tactician.

“I was upset with the goals we conceded. I was actually very angry because we were careless defensively at times.”

Elsewhere, Luso Africa is setting the pace at the top of the standings with 45 points from the same number of outings, followed by Randburg with 41 points. Alberton, who’ve played a game more, completes the top three.
