Madelein proving to be a Boksburg fitness super star
Two years ago, she won at the H&H show which qualified her to take part at last year’s Arnold Classic.
La Como Fitness Club superstar Madelein Botes added a gold medal to the Boksburg fitness plethora when she was crowned universe champion of the ladies extreme division at the WFF Universe show held in Singapore earlier this month.
Describing the moment to the Advertiser, she commented: “This is my biggest achievement to date; to be chosen to represent SA on an international stage and then taking first place, was only a dream until July 1 when it all became a reality.
“It’s an absolutely amazing feeling, unreal some days and it still feels like a dream.”
The judges left no stone unturned in the process of ruling the winner, with athletes judged on how they presented themselves, body cemetery, muscle tone and overall physique.
The title has been a climax warranted by the build-up to Singapore for the 39-year-old, who will be hoping to gift herself for her birthday in November when she’ll be involved in another big tournament.
Last year, she finished first at the KZN provincials before the SAs, where she settled for a bronze medal.
In May this year, she participated in the Pretoria Classic Pro-Am where she finished third again, resulting in her selection to represent Team South Africa in Singapore.
Her reward for her Singapore success is a ticket to the US where the WFF World Championships will be held in California in November.
“I’ve always been a sporty person, so finding something that I enjoy makes it worth it.
“Knowing that what you achieve is due to hard work, discipline every day and having others saying that you inspire them to be the best version of themselves, makes it so much more worth every sacrifice you have to make.
“My support group, training buddy and coach, inspire me daily to keep going.”
Botes’ first competitive outing was in September of 2015 in the Rossi Classic where she finished fifth.
