Watch: Tambo Memorial Hospital staff may strike again on Monday

The strikers blocked the entrances and are singing and marching with force.

The Advertiser was on the scene at Tambo Memorial Hospital today where a strike action broke out.

Some of the striking staff said they will continue to strike on Monday, June 4 and that the second strike will not be as ‘peaceful’ as today.

Staff are demanding higher salaries, and an increase in overtime pay.

At the moment services at the hospital are at a halt.

This action follows protest at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg yesterday.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi described these protests as unacceptable and says arrests need to be made.

Jack Bloom, DA spokesperson on health in Gauteng, has called for an urgent resolution to the strike at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.

The Advertiser was not able to receive comment from Tambo Memorial Hospital CEO Dr Naidoo as of yet.
