Plans afoot to open new remedial school in Boksburg

PeterHouse School will offer adapted CAPS curriculum for learners with a broad range of learning difficulties.

With Excelsior Academic College relocating to other premises in Boksburg, the current principal Helen Derret has seen this as the perfect opportunity to make use of the old premises.

Derret is planning to open a new remedial school, called PeterHouse. This will be a primary school for learners between the ages of six to 13.

“I did extensive research and the need for special schools in Boksburg is huge. We will have well-trained staff and aim to open as soon as possible,” said Derret.

Dr Hester Costa, director of inclusion and special schools at the Department of Education, said if a new remedial school is registered and complies to all the necessary requirements, it will be a positive contribution to the community of Boksburg.

“We are closer to freedom when we have more choices, and it will be good for parents to have another option when it comes to remedial schools in Boksburg,” said Costa.
