Carjackers target deliveryman’s company bakkie

Two incidents of carjacking were recently reported in the Boksburg SAPS precinct.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko, a deliveryman had his company bakkie hijacked while waiting in the driveway of one of his company clients on Langenhoven Street, Parkrand, on April 14.

“The driver was assigned to deliver bank cards and cellphones to bank clients but when he stopped at the gate of the client in Parkrand, he noticed a silver Polo Vivo pulling over behind his vehicle,” said Maseko.

Three men, described as coloured males, aimed guns at him and demanded the car keys.

They took the car keys and drove off in his company bakkie leaving him stranded in the driveway. Inside the bakkie, there were bank cards and eight cellphones which were meant to be delivered to clients.

* Another vehicle, a Kia bakkie, was hijacked next to the traffic light at the intersection of Van Dyk Road and Commissioner Street on April 13.

“The driver told the police that he was pulled over by a man wearing a reflective jacket resembling a traffic officer,” said Maseko.

The man approached his bakkie, pulled out a firearm and instructed him to jump into another vehicle, a Toyota Quantum, where his face was covered and hands tied.

The victim was driven to Soweto where the thugs gave him taxi fare before dropping him off.
