Reiger Park family receives a much-needed wheelchair

Family has been desperately seeking help for a long time to assist daughter

The Collins family of Reiger Park has finally received a wheelchair for their disabled daughter Jenet (39).

She is suffering from cerebral palsy and has never walked. The donation comes after almost four decades of the family trying to secure a wheelchair.

Reiger Park community leader Joe Swarts and Eden Park ward councillor Dino Peterson recently donated the much-needed wheelchair to the family.

Jenet’s mother, Rosina, approached Swarts and told him about the plight of her daughter.

He then approached Peterson, who is also wheelchair-bound, and asked if he could help to find a wheelchair for Jenet.

Rosina said the donation will change the life of her daughter, who was always lying down as she is unable to do any basic movements or speak.

“Since Jenet was a child we’ve been knocking on doors asking for a donation of a wheelchair, but these efforts yielded no results.

“I’m overjoyed our prayers have been finally answered and it’s thanks to Joe and Dino that my daughter will now be able to sit up comfortably,” said Rosina.

The wheelchair means that they can now get out and about with Jenet as a family.

Rosina is also appealing for donations of basic necessities, such as sanitary towels, disposable nappies and clothing.

To make a donation contact Rosina on 083 962 1743 or Joe Swarts on 078 824 3976. -@MthuphaFanie
