Harran loses ground in championship

The next leg of the championship is in Port Elizabeth on April 7

Defending champion Brent Harran has his work cut out in the Supermotard Championship after finishing ninth in the second leg of the tournament held in Polokwane recently.

The Sunward Park biker lost his way in the day’s last heat and lost ground on points to rival and tournament leader Greg Gildenhuys.

It all began well for Harran who won the day’s first heat before disarray in the second heat of the afternoon.

The heat saw three red flags after eight laps of the total 12 before race organisers decided to totally cancel it and re-run it.

“It was really unfortunate because I would’ve won that heat and the guy ahead of me in the championships (Gildenhuys) would’ve finished fourth, so it would’ve been good for the championship.

“So what should’ve been our third heat was actually our second, I finished second.

“Unfortunately I made a mistake in the last heat and I ran off the track and unfortunately I finished ninth. Like I said, the guy who’s leading the championship won that race. A bit of bad luck on my side and a bit of good luck on his side but that’s racing.

“I’m looking forward to making up the lost points.”
