Residents left fuming following power cuts

Constant outages in Van Dyk Park has become frustrating.

Concerned resident of Boksburg writes:

We in Van Dyk Park feel like the orphans of Boksburg as far as power outages are concerned.

Either the electricity to our homes is off, or the street lights are not working.

The recurring problem seems to be located in the area surrounding Van Dyk Primary School.

This has become a critical issue because our electrical appliances, fridges and deep freezers are not functioning optimally.

Because of the current state of affairs, eventually these appliances will break down. Equipment such as security alarms is also being severely affected.

Food is being spoilt on a regular basis, while the bill for constant outages is becoming quite high.

In the short period of 2018, street lights surrounding the primary school have been out since January 4, notably in Haakbos, Alder and Waxberry streets.

An initial report was made about this but to no avail.

The call centre operators are often quite impatient and rude. It begs the question as to the accuracy of the system and the professionalism of the people working at the call centre.

The days on which electricity/streetlights were out are: September 30, October 30, October 31, December 11, December 12, December, December 14 and December 17.

We were without electricity for 24 hours on December 12. In 2018 thus far, the electricity was out on January 7 and 9, for three hours on each occasion.

No direct information about the cause of the outages is given, and there are currently no future prospects that this ridiculous state of affairs will not continue.

Of course, payment of electricity bills is expected even though the service is not rendered.

The Advertiser has contacted the Ekurhuleni metro but is still waiting for a response.
