‘Most wanted’ dangerous suspect nabbed

Banana’was pursued on charges of murder, attempted murder, hijacking and the breaching of his parole conditions.

A 43-year-old Vosloorus ex-convict, said to be the most dangerous criminal in Ekurhuleni, was on Thursday, January 11 arrested by members of the EMPD Public Order Policing (Pops) and EMPD K9 Unit.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, the man who is nicknamed ‘Banana’and resides in Dindela Section was arrested at his girlfriend’s home in Mailula Park, Vosloorus Extension 25.

Among the charges the suspect was pursued for were murder, attempted murder, hijacking and the breaching of his parole conditions.

The murder case stems from the murder of a Gauteng Community Safety Board member. Banana had also from the Boksburg Correctional Services facility on two occasions.

“In November 2017, Gauteng Community Safety and Katlehong SAPS Commanders brought on board the EMPD Pops Unit to track down ‘Banana’ as he had proven to be elusive for some time.

“The two EMPD Specialised Services Unit members left no stone unturned in gathering information about the wanted man. Their patience bore fruit when information led them to the suspect’s girlfriend’s place where the arrest was made,” said Kgasago.

Banana is expected to appear in court soon.

‘Banana’ was, in 1994, convicted in a heist case and sentenced to 65 years in jail. He was served his sentence in 1996. After serving seventeen years, he was released on parole and had to be on an ankle monitor for 12 months.

“The most dangerous suspect in Ekurhuleni is behind bars – bravo to EMPD public order policing and K9 units,” said Kgasago.
