Wheels come off for North Rand Road shop trading in stolen truck tyres

Tyres were identified by their serial numbers.

A tyre company owner in Sundra (Delmas area) got the shock of his life when he realised that the same truck tyres stolen from his business in December were being sold by a Boksburg tyre company.

He had visited the company to buy truck tyres.

The stolen tyres were discovered on January 9, at about 3pm, at a tyre shop in North Rand Road.

According to Boksburg North SAPS communications officer Capt Juanita Coetzer, when the Boksburg company showed him some tyres they had in stock, he recognised these as tyres stolen from his business.

“He identified the tyres by their serial numbers and then contacted the Boksburg North police and opened a case,” Coetzer said.

She said the complainant then contacted other business owners in Sundra who had also had truck tyres stolen.

“About 10 other people have come forward to report that they too, had truck tyres stolen in Sundra.

“A 31-year-old suspect was arrested and is facing charges of possession of stolen goods.”

The police shut the Boksburg tyre company’s doors and the business will remain closed while further investigations are being conducted.
