Local duo makes top 10 in Dusi seeding race

Florida Lake Canoe Club hosted a Dusi seeding and training race on the Klip River from Daleside to Meyerton on December 10.

With heavy storms and rainfall during the past couple of weeks, the water level on the river was fast and furious and thoroughly enjoyed by experienced paddlers.

The race was 30km of paddling with 2 x 2km portages where paddlers were required to run with their boats.

With more than 100 entries in the race, it was the best supported local river race in months as paddlers gear up towards the world’s toughest endurance canoeing event: the FNB Dusi which takes place in February from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

Tommy Booth from Springs and Pieter Engelbrecht from Boksburg, both members of the ERK Kayaking Club based at Homestead Lake in Benoni, teamed up to do the doubles Dusi.

They finished the 30km race with portages in ninth place in a time of 2:23 as third sub-veterans – their first race together, and are feeling confident about a successful Dusi race come next year. – @SabeloBoksburg
