Pre-schooler leaves premises undetected

The Boksburg North SAPS is investigating alleged irregularities at a Beyers Park pre-school after a parent opened a case of child abuse related to an incident which occurred at the school.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, a six-year-old boy left the pre-school’s premises on October 30 without any of the staff realising this.

He was found about an hour later on the corner of Bartlett and North Rand roads.

“A lady spotted him and he directed her to his grandparents’ house in the area,” said Coetzer.

The Advertiser contacted the school principal who confirmed the child had left the classroom undetected. According to her, the child ran across the playground, climbed on top of a wheelie bin and jumped over the fence.

This was established after the principal viewed CCTV footage.

The boy is still attending the school, however, following this incident, two parents confirmed to the Advertiser that they had removed their children from the school due to concerns about their safety.

The school has since removed the wheelie bins from the fence the principal said.

Written correspondence from a legal firm representing the school indicated that once they had an opportunity to fully canvass the matter and take instructions from their client, they would revert about the incident.
