“The substation is now locked and an alarm with pepper gas will be installed to prevent vandalism and people trespassing the substation,” said Gadebe.

A few weeks ago, a concerned businessman, Clive Watkins, contacted the Advertiser about the electrical substation that appeared to be occupied by vagrants.

“One can only feel for the homeless trying to survive the elements but the choice of location is extremely dangerous and something needs to be done to save them from themselves,” Watkins told the Advertiser at the time.

The previously open door of the substation at 29 Atlas Road is now closed and locked.

Watkins confirmed that the bedding which was inside was removed from the substation at 29 Atlas Road, Anderbolt, on August 25.

“A new lock has been fitted which will hopefully last and we agreed that our company will do some modifications to the door latch to prevent future lock breakings.”

He added that other repairs and painting still need to be carried out at the substation.
