Burglars make off with thousands of rand worth of stolen goods in Boksburg

More than R500 000 worth of goods and property were stolen during a spate of house break-ins and theft at several residential properties in Boksburg, during the period of August 17 to 21.

* A resident of Sunward Park awoke to an almost empty house after thieves ransacked the property, sometime during the night of August 18 or early hours of August 19.

Thugs forced their way into the Albrecht Road residence and stole goods worth about R150 000, including a laptop, TV, watch and jewellery.

According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Cebisa Maseko, the homeowner told the police that he slept through the entire incident.

“The complainant said he fell asleep in the sitting room, and when he woke up the next morning, his expensive belongings were gone,” said Maseko.

* Also in Sunward Park, burglars forced their way into a residential house and stole goods worth about R22 000, while the owner was asleep, on Saturday night, August 19.

When the victim woke up at about 9am the following day, he noticed that a TV set, sound system and external hard drive had been stolen. The burglars forced open the window to gain entry.

* Burglars forced open the door of a church in Market Street, Boksburg CBD, and stole goods worth about R24 000, on Sunday night, August 20.

The stolen items include a laptop, amplifier, money and microphones.

* Pretending to be contractors, three men, in a silver bakkie, entered a house in Wolhuter Street, Parkrand, and stole a TV and tablet device, at about 12pm on August 18.

The domestic worker told the police that she first heard a loud bang on the door. Upon investigating, she noticed the suspects standing next to the door. They told her they had been sent by the owner to fix something in the house.

The domestic worker, however, became suspicious and she ran out of the house through the kitchen door and went to the neighbour’s house to ask for help.

They pressed a panic button and when their security response arrived, they went to the house to find that some of the valuable house contents had been stolen.

* In President Brand Street, Boksburg South, thugs entered a residential house and stole a TV while the owner was at work, on Friday, August 18. He received a call from his security providers telling him that the alarm had been activated.

He rushed home at about 12pm to find that his house had been burgled and his 48-inch TV set was gone.

* In Retief Avenue, Boksburg South, thugs forced their way into a house and stole a 55-inch TV, clothing and other electrical appliances worth about R80 000, on August 17. The homeowner told the police that he left his house at about 6.30am and went to work, but when he returned home at about 5pm he discovered that his house had been burgled.

* Burglars forced open the window of a house in Montague Street, Boksburg East, and stole a TV while the owner was at work, on August 17. The burglars forced open the gate and removed one of the windows of the house to gain entry.

* A resident of Plantation told the police that he woke up on August 19 to find that someone had stolen his customer’s motorcycle, worth about R20 000. The motorcycle had been parked in the yard the previous day.

* Also in Plantation, burglars entered a residential house and stole tools worth about R12 000, on August18.

* In the Boksburg Library parking lot, police patrolling the area arrested a woman for allegedly stealing a car stereo. “The police patrol noticed the suspicious woman next to an unattended vehicle, which had the hazard lights on, and asked her if she knew the owner of the car.

“The woman told the officers that she had no idea whose car it was, and they asked to search her bag in which they found a car stereo and a screwdriver,” said Maseko.

* Sometime between August 17 and 19, thieves stole a company’s Hyundai H100, worth about R250 000, from a residential property in Boksburg.

The complainant told the police that he parked the bakkie in the property’s parking lot on August 17, but when he went to the parking area on August 19 the bakkie was nowhere to be found.
