According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Cebisa Maseko, police received a complaint of a murder at a tyre dealer located at the corner of Commissioner and David streets.
When they arrived at the scene they found the suspect, who told the police that he and his colleague were in the guard room when he shot the victim dead by mistake.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to his knee and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and the firearm, a 9mm Glock loaded with 16 rounds of live ammunition, was seized.
