Five arrested in deadly domestic violence

Police arrested five suspects - three women and two men - in connection with the murder of a man in Reiger Park.

The murder in Reiger Park is thought to be related to domestic violence.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, the five suspects were arrested moments after the man, in his twenties, died after he suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest.

The death has been ruled a homicide, and happened in the deceased’s home on Bluebell Street on Sunday, May 21.

“Earlier, our members responded to the complaint of domestic violence in progress at the address just after 1.30pm on Sunday.

“They found the victim inside his home with a visible stab wound. Paramedics were also called and they certified him dead on the scene.

“Investigators learnt that the stabbing was the result of domestic violence between the deceased and his sisters, who were reportedly backed up by their boyfriends,” said Phathela.

The suspects were arrested on the scene.

The sisters and their boyfriends are now facing a murder charge in connection with the killing of the family member.

They have already appeared in court, where they were all remanded in custody until they find a lawyer to represent them.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s niece, Charlene Adolph, described the killing of her uncle as “brutal”, in an email she sent to the Advertiser following the incident.

“I think it’s greatly important that matters such as this be placed in newspapers to create further awareness in our local communities.

“With the recent reports of the high number of crimes committed against women and children, the same is done against men in our communities.

“Our community members need to be encouraged to unite and fight for a safer neighbourhood – and at the same time we need to become more vigilant,” said Adolph. -@FanieFLK
