Lighting a candle for those fighting HIV/Aids

St Francis Care Centre held its annual candle-light memorial service on Tuesday, May 23, for all who have lost the battle against HIV and Aids.

The purpose of the event is to remember those who have fallen.

Guest speakers shared the challenges, successes and stigmatisation around HIV/Aids treatment.

The lighting of the candles symbolises there’s still hope for those affected.

“They can live a normal life,” said St Francis social worker, Thuli Mbatha.

The memorial also empowered people to know their status.

Members from the Ramaphosa Clinic, Boksburg Norths SAPS, Department of Health HIV and Aid Unit, HIV Testing Service team and St Francis beneficiaries, staff and patients attended the memorial.

“The struggle is not over – the fight has still a long way to go. We have to stand together,” said Mbatha.
