Police raid Boksburg North Hotel; establishment temporarily closed down
The infamous Boksburg North Hotel has been temporarily closed down.
This is after the Boksburg North SAPS verbally informed the management of the Boksburg North Hotel that the establishment does not comply with the requirement of Section 41 (5) of the Gauteng Liquor Act, 2 of 2003.
WO Rudi Bezuidenhout delivered a letter to the hotel management by 11am and made out a fine of R1 500 on February 28.
The fine was then paid.
An extract of the letter read:
In terms of Section 41 (5) of the Gauteng Liquor Act, 2 of 2003, the holder of an liquor/shebeen permits shall at all times comply with all laws, metropolitan or district council by-laws and regulations, including health and fire laws.
According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the letter served to notify the Boksburg North Hotel management that they had to close down the business or the continuation of the selling of liquor until in possession of certain certificates/documents.
“The hotel management did not comply with this instruction and by 1pm the hotel was still trading,” said Coetzer.
“All liquor has been seized and forfeited to the State.”
Ekurhuleni Central Cluster SAPS and national and provincial members partook in the operation.
According to Coetzer, the hotel did not comply with the requirements because of the following:
• No zoning rights to trade as a liquor outlet at the premises which is used as a liquor outlet, or
• No consent letter was obtained from the local council or municipality to trade as a liquor outlet at the premises,
• No fire certificate was issued by local fire department, and
• Contravention of Smoking Law.
Bezuidenhout opened a docket for the contravention of the provisions of Section 41 (5) of the Liquor Act, 2 of 2003.
